Being an ISO 9001:2000 company. AFCONS became the first Indian concern to construct the underground station and tunnel at Barakhamba road for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
AFCONS Infrastructure Ltd is a Mumbai based specialised construction company engaged in construction of heavy foundations, off-shore construction, highways, bridges, flyovers, tunnels etc for over 38 years. It aims to imbibe world-class construction technology with minimal foreign inputs. This is being achieved by a highly motivated team of engineers and workers. The philosophy of the concern revolves around better, cheaper and faster construction technology relevant to Indian working conditions.
Constructing; underground station and tunnel at Barakhamba road was a challenging job as this road happens to be the busiest and the only one connecting east and west Delhi traffic with multi storied commercial buildings on both sides. The challenges were primarily in areas of commercial, technical, environmental, safety, traffic, underground utilities and more importantly, meeting the DMRC's international standards.
AFCONS won the contract competing with international companies already established in Delhi and working at underground section from Delhi University to Central Secretariat. It was able to complete the project on time against constraints like restricted working place and a densely crowded vehicular traffic without disturbing the charted and uncharted utilities/underground services.
This challenge was met by adopting a highly technical top-down construction methodology both for station and tunnel. This method resulted in timely and safely completion of the project, meeting and maintaining the required environment standards.
The company is proud of successfully achieving another challenge i.e. DMRC's corporate mission "Safety". By completing the project with more than 8 lakhs mandays worked without any fatal accident.
Another challenge for the company was to maintain the pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow uninterrupted throughout the construction period. By deploying most modern high-capacity new equipments, plants and machineries, the company could achieve highest quality, pollution free environment and avoid delays and breakdowns.
