Nad Al Sheba Race Course Development
Project Brief
Meydan Bridges and Road projects is one of the key projects undertaken by RTA and its importance is underlined by the massive nature of Meydan Racecourse projects which is world’s largest horse racecourse with iconic and landmark development spread over an area of 67 millions square feet.
The Construction of Major bridges, Roads, Utilities & Navigational canal was awarded to AFCONS Construction Mideast LLC on 9th September 2008 with the duration of 580 days to complete the project by 16th of April 2010.

The project comprises construction of 3 bridges with the length of around 2500 meters, including 969 meters length pre-stressed concrete deck with the maximum span of 60 m across canal, over 683 number of Pile foundation and 547 meters length of RE wall approaches and also 420 meters length of terrace wall approaches and bridge connecting road works.

The road construction involved of construction of new meydan road (D69) connecting existing interchange at Al-Ain road and Existing Muscat road over a length of 4.6 km (approx.) with the varying number of lanes of 5 to 9 lanes and also ramps & stable access to provide access for Meydan and D69 road for a length of 4.2 km (approx.) with 2 lanes. The project also includes rising of 400kv overhead power lines in order to ensure the sufficient vertical clearance to road D69 and also includes diversion and new installation of utilities along the service corridor and across the road works.

Some of the achievements which we proud of :

1. Successful completion of all bridges within 12 months period particularly completing the 440 meters long & 30 m wide PSC deck slab within the period of 6 months including complicated stressing sequence.
2. Successful completion of 12.5 meters high, 275 meters length & 270 deg. (Approx.) curved shape of critical RE wall approach within the period of 2.5 months with continuous supervision and coordination.
3. Construction of diversion roads of about 3.0 KM with high standards and management of traffic to facilitate the construction of roads & bridges were one of the toughest challenges in this project.
