The 950 m long bridge is on well and pile foundations having 6 spans of 53.50 m , 22 spans of 22.80 m and a navigational span of 124.2m. All spans except the navigational span are bridged with prestressed concrete post tensioned box girders, each weighing 800 M.T. for 53.5 m span and pretensioned T girders 3 Nos. each weighing 70 MT for 22.8 m span. These were cast in a yard on the shore and placed in position by 1200 MT. capacity floating Crane , fabricated by AFCONS for this purpose. The Project has been completed in 26 Months , excluding stoppage of 8 months due to finalization of railway alignment. |

The girder for navigational span was steel girder weighing 680 Mt. for placing the girder a ‘Unique and Innovative’ girder launching scheme was adopted for the first time in the history of Bridge –Building in the country and the girder has been placed to an accuracy of a millimeter. The project was awarded THIRD prize in the competition for Most outstanding Bridge National Awards 1995 - Category II by Indian Institute of Bridge Engineers in the year 1995. |
